We are aware that the current world health situation continues to cause a lot of uncertainty for many of us. We at Inside Pictures continue to plan for this year’s programme and have developed a flexible approach to delivery without compromising on benefits to our participants. With this in mind, Inside Pictures is open for applications. If you wish to be considered for a place, please do apply via our website.

Recommended Steps to Take Before Applying

Read this website: especially the page pertaining to fees, scholarships and bursaries, so that you are clear on the costs involved.

Make sure you can commit: Applicants need to be sure they can commit to the dates of the course prior to applying, and will be asked to confirm their availability on the application form. Please note that full attendance is one of the terms and conditions of participation. The dates of the modules tend to remain the same from year to year, i.e: Interviews: mid-April; Module 1: 2nd week of June; Module 2: 3rd week of September; Module 3: 2nd week of November; Module 4: 2nd week of the January following the start date.

The Application Process

Stage 1: Application form

  • All applications are to be made online, via the application form:
    • The application form asks for information about you, including your availability for interview and the programme dates, why you want to apply, your references, scholarship application and an Equal Opportunities questionnaire. When applying you will be asked to upload the following:
      • a photograph
      • a CV (we do not take kindly to being sent biographies instead)
      • a signed and dated reference
      • Equal Opportunities monitoring form
    • If you are applying as a producer, we ask that you upload a list of your credits, inserted into the template we provide. This is because we want to get a sense of the sorts of films you have made, their scale, budget, distribution and genre.
    • If you wish to apply for scholarship to contribute to your fees, you are asked to do so at the application stage via the appropriate section on the application form. Scholarship requests will not be considered after application.
  • Selection for interviews will take place after applications have closed. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted in March.
  • A first pass at allocation of scholarships will be done by Inside Pictures management, and participants may be contacted to ask whether they would be able to accept a place with a lower amount of scholarship than they originally asked for on their application. It is therefore crucial that you apply for a scholarship at the application form stage, if you wish to be considered for one, so that Inside Pictures management can be clear about each applicant’s situation.
  • Application forms and scholarship requests received after the deadline will not be considered.
  • Please note – the application form has no built in facility to save. The page can be left open and will not time out, but if you close it you will lose your information. It is therefore strongly recommended that you prepare your answers fully before filling out the online application.
Stage 2: Interviews

  • These are conducted in London with a panel of interviewers, comprised of alumni and Programme Director Clare Crean.
  • Applicants are advised to make every effort to attend in person (although Inside Pictures cannot cover any travel costs).
  • If an applicant cannot attend in person, a Skype interview will be offered instead.
  • All interviews will be conducted 21st-22nd April 2021 ONLY. No other interview dates will be offered.
Stage 3: Selection

  • Successful applicants will be sent an acceptance email in the third week of April.
  • At the time of being offered a place, applicants will also be informed as to what amount, if any, of scholarship Inside Pictures is prepared to offer.
  • The new line up of participants will be made public before the Cannes Film Festival.

We ask applicants to provide two references at the application stage:

  • Professional: this is a written reference to include with your application and is to vouch for you in your professional capacity. It should be from someone in the industry with whom you have worked extensively during the last year. It should not be from someone in your company or someone who works with you on a daily basis.

The reference should be on company letterhead paper and should be dated. It should bear the name, company, job title and signature of the referee.

We ask all applicants to submit the questions below to their professional referee to answer:

1.    How do you know the applicant

2.    Why is the applicant a good candidate for Inside Pictures?

3.    In your opinion are there any areas in terms of knowledge, skills or personal development which we can help develop during the programme?

  • Character Referee: this is to vouch for your personal character. This can be someone from your company or the organisation you work for. Please include this referee’s details and we will contact this referee. We will contact all character referees before the interviews, so please make sure they are available to be contacted and that their details are correct. Failure to secure a referee will impede your application.

We will contact all referees before the interviews, so please make sure they are available to be contacted. Failure to secure a referee will impede your application.

When choosing a referee, please note the following guidelines: The most useful referee is someone who: works or has worked with you in a professional context during the last year; is be able to attest as to your performance and character; is an international executive or producer of some stature; has some knowledge of what Inside Pictures is, and what it requires from participants; will be available to respond to our request for a reference some time between mid March and mid April 2021.

Competition is particularly tough for producers, as they are over-represented compared to other sectors. We ask that any producer applying have already completed one feature that has been through the international distribution cycle.

At the application stage, we ask all producers to provide a minimum of 5 credits, with key information about each film. If you wish to supply a more thorough filmography, you are welcome to upload one via the application form.

Please ensure all films are listed with the following details:

Title; Genre; Language; Year of Production; Production Budget; Country of Origin (if a co-production, list the majority co-producing country); Sales Agent; Territories in which the film was distributed; Details about your role as producer on the film (eg were you a coproducer, the majority coproducer, the service producer etc).
