What attracted you to Inside Pictures? What’s your impression so far?
I had only heard the best things about Inside Pictures, meeting the alumni at the Cannes reception I noticed an incredible dynamic within the group. Everybody seemed energized and eager to connect. After the first two modules I understand why. The program’s intensity combined with the great speakers and a wonderful group of people to share this with makes Inside Pictures stand out as something truly unique. Especially since it’s also organised so well.
You have just moved from DETAiLFILM to Real Film in Berlin. Please tell us about your new company? What’s Real Film’s profile? What’s your role?
REAL FILM Berlin is a production house, owned by Studio Hamburg, one of Germany’s biggest film and television production and production services companies. REAL FILM so far has focused mainly on popular television productions for the domestic market. As managing director and producer my role is to expand the business into film production and internationalise the business across the board. With the newly set up outfit Studio Hamburg UK, run by my good friend Vivien Müller-Rommel and the incredible resources the whole group has to offer, studio space in Berlin and Hamburg for example, I’m thrilled about the new job and the possibilities to shape the companies international future.
What will you be working on?
With a team of three producers I will be working across the board on the television/ film projects already in place at REAL FILM and my slate of projects that I bring with me. Among the projects in the making is a new series for ZDF and a film about three friends and their love for swing music in the Third Reich. As for the projects that I bring with me, I’m working on the first feature by the student academy award winner Dustin Loose, the adaption of a bestselling kids novel to be directed by an exciting fresh talent who I describe as a mix of Gondry and Jeunet, and a mini-series that tells the untold truth behind a well known true story. The project is written by Michael Horsten, a writer on The Killing and will be co-produced by Zentropa.
