Daniel Campos Pavoncelli is Head of Film and TV at Indiana Production Company, and one of 20 participants on the 2015 Inside Pictures programme.

Daniel is based in Italy, where he is responsible for evaluating and assessing projects and assembling packages for Indiana Production Company. He specifically looks at the international market, with a vision to create strong partnerships with other European production companies. Having started his career at the Rome International Film Festival, Daniel moved to Exclusive Media working predominately with the sales and marketing team on films such as Let Me InThe Woman in Black and The Ides of March. He then moved to Fandango Portobello, where he was involved with Nanni Moretti’s Habemus Papam and Matteo Garrone’s Reality. In 2012 he helped set up Cascade Pictures, a development finance company that has privately invested in the development of eight films by high profile producers including Nick Barton (Calendar Girls) and Gareth Unwin (The Kings Speech). In 2014 Daniel set up UK production outfit Amaro Films with partner Cora Palfrey, producing Andrew Steggall’s feature film Departure, with the support of the BFI.

Can you describe your role at Indiana Production Company and what it entails?

Indiana is a fast growing company and the ambition is to develop and produce more and more material for an international audience. We have co-produced films with France and are now working with UK and US partners on a number of projects. My role in particular is to identify and develop material, and to maintain the relationship with international partners. I also oversee the international exploitation of our films, which includes approaching sales agents and putting together festival strategies in order to maximise the visibility of the film.

What do you hope to gain from participating in Inside Pictures? What attracted you to the programme?

Inside Pictures is a prestigious programme, and I’m incredibly proud to being part of such an experienced and diverse group of film executives. I’m looking forward to meeting and learning from so many experts in all aspects of the industry.

Who is your mentor and what do you hope to gain from that relationship?

My mentor is Mark Byrne, head of business affairs at Element Pictures, the very successful Irish production company that had The Lobster in Cannes. He is generously sharing experiences and points of view that are invaluable.

What has been the highlight of the programme so far? / What are you most excited about on the programme?

I was very impressed by the panels on distribution and exhibition – it was interesting and surprising to hear from a side of the industry that I realised I knew little about.

What are you currently working on?

We are currently working on a coming of age summer romance by Gabriele Muccino, which we are shooting between Rome and San Francisco. I’m also working on a deal with a major Italian writer for a TV series that could be our big first step into the world of original drama – more than a step I would call it a statement! There is also a US remake of one of our films, which is developing at the moment, and will be directed by an A-Lister from LA. And I’m always looking for new material…
