Maria Tsigka is a producer, partner and Vice-President at Athens based film production company Argonauts Productions, and a participant on Inside Pictures 2015.
Maria has worked on films ranging from arthouse productions such as In The Woods by Angelos Frantzis (premiered at Rotterdam in 2010) to commercial hits such as Eteron Imisi by Vangelis Seitanidis (2011) and international co-productions such as Do Not Forget Me Istanbul (2011).
We asked Maria some questions about her work and the Inside Pictures experience.
What do you hope to gain from participating in Inside Pictures?
A deeper understanding of how the business works in the UK and US markets, to find the ways to blend the different approaches, expand my network and work on ambitious projects between continental Europe, the UK and US.
Who is your mentor and what do you hope to gain from that relationship?
My mentor is Yogita Puri, Head of Commercial and Business Affairs at The Ink Factory. With her, I aim to formulate the strategy for my future business development and gain more input on the film business and financing as approached in the UK.
What has been the highlight of the programme so far?
The Batsuit at Warners! Joking aside though, it’s difficult to choose the highlight when meeting so many inspiring people. But being back from the 2nd Module in LA just a couple of weeks ago, I would say what stands out for me is the incredible energy boost; the eagerness “to do more” I feel every time from the combination of such high profile speakers and an amazing selection of participants. I feel very lucky to be part of this group.
What are you currently working on?
I am working on two feature projects from Greece, a thriller and a period romance drama. At the same time I am developing the concept for a company in Germany with producer Markus Halberschmidt. Currently we are working on an English-speaking, sci-fi drama TV series, with strong potential for international co-production.
